Teeth Whitening for a Dazzling Smile in Succasunna, NJ

Handsome man with white smile and fashion eyeglassesDentist-supervised teeth bleaching is a safe, fast, and effective way to whiten stained or discolored tooth enamel and dentin. At Roxbury Family Dentistry in Succasunna, New Jersey, we offer the Zoom in-office teeth whitening procedure.

How Does It Work?

At Roxbury Family Dentistry, we usually recommend that our patients have a professional teeth cleaning performed before their Zoom teeth whitening session. During the Zoom procedure, a dental professional will cover the lips and gums, then apply a hydrogen peroxide gel to the teeth. The gel is left in place for 15 minutes while a special light is used to accelerate the whitening process. The process is repeated three times for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. When the session is complete, a dental professional will apply a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel to the teeth. Because the light uses minimal heat—which is usually the source of sensitivity during teeth whitening—most patients do not experience any discomfort during the procedure and have only a mild tingling sensation afterward. Many patients achieve noticeable results with a single treatment. For dramatic results, several whitening sessions may be needed.

How Long Do the Effects of Teeth Last?

Although teeth whitening can be effective, it is not permanent. On average, the effects of a Zoom treatment last between 12 and 24 months. However, the whiteness may begin to fade sooner if the teeth are exposed to highly pigmented foods and beverages, such as tomato sauce, coffee, and red wine. To help maintain the whitening effects of your treatment, your dentist may suggest that you consume these foods and beverages in moderation—or avoid them altogether—to avoid staining your teeth. After your Zoom whitening treatment, you will receive a touch-up kit for home use, including gel and custom-fitted whitening trays, along with instructions on how and when to use it. We may also recommend that you use whitening toothpaste. It will be important for you to maintain your oral healthcare regimen—including regular brushing and flossing—to help prevent stains from reforming, and to have a professional dental cleaning at the frequency recommended by your dentist.
